Anyone know their first listen to a punk band?
Mine was from the mainstream Green Day, but if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have listened to Op.Ivy, Bad Religion, the Descendents and event the Clash.

I like OpIvy and Rancid's okay; but my 'roots' as far as punk goes lie with Joy Division, The Fall, Bauhaus, Wire, Gang of Four, The Clash, some of the Damned...my mind's gone blank. The Ramones. Sex Pistols are pretty good background music, but they don't really have a diverse sound; one song kind of sounds like the rest. As for Green Day, I guess they're not horrible, however I blame them for this blinkoneeightytwonewfoundgloryetc....crap. -

Fri, January 16, 2004 - 5:07 PMThe Plasmatics. I saw them on T.V. I couldn't have been older than 10 at the time. I keep thinking it was on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, but it may have been their appearance on Fridays, or the Tomorrow Show.
I had never seen anything like it before, so it left a pretty lasting impression.

Sat, January 17, 2004 - 6:22 AMAlso the Clash. I went to pick up this kid in HS. We were all cutting class all day to drink beer. He had it, and CCR in his boombox. Since I listened to mainly AM Country back then it was the first ROCK I'd listened to in depth. Somewhere around 1981...
